Lawyer Mati Aviv retired from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in January 2005, after 30 years of service. He served in a prestigious unit as a combatant and officer. He was injured in the Litani Operation and was reassigned to staff roles. His last position was as the Safety Officer of the Southern Command and an advisor to the Commanding Officer in this field.
Additionally, he served in permanent service in command, staff, and as a military prosecutor in the Military Advocate General's Corps. He retired from the IDF but continues to serve in active reserve duty with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his career, he acquired extensive knowledge and experience in managing people and complex systems, with an organizational perspective and efficient utilization of the most valuable resource: human resources.
His proven expertise is a direct result of the experience, courses, and numerous training sessions he underwent, including command courses, inquiry committees, inspector courses, educational training, and he also completed a course in teaching operational and civilian driving.
During his service, he was required to serve as a side judge in the military court in Gaza and Kastina, Southern District Court. He gained extensive experience as a side judge and military prosecutor in the fields of criminal law, drugs, desertion, negligent homicide, traffic accidents, traffic offenses, loss of weapons, providing legal opinions, and trying terrorists.
He had the privilege of judging alongside Judge Oded Mudrik, Professor Gross from Haifa, Judge Eliezer Rivlin from the Supreme Court, and many others.
As part of his studies, he was a student in the Human Rights Division and participated in providing assistance and guidance to disadvantaged communities as part of community defense in distressed neighborhoods.
Following his retirement from the IDF, he offers free initial consultations to IDF retirees within the framework of "Tzevet" and to wounded IDF veterans within the "Organization of Disabled IDF Veterans".
Education – He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies (History of the Middle East) with honors from Ben-Gurion University, a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Policy (M.A) from Ben-Gurion University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B), and is certified as a lawyer.
He resides in Lehavim, is married, and is a father of three. After his discharge, he opened an independent office in the Train Tower in Be'er Sheva.
The office, together with the attorneys, provides services in military law, representation in military courts, criminal law, traffic law, and family law in all its aspects.
