Who is eligible for citizenship?

The law in Bulgaria states that anyone born in Bulgaria who left the country between March 1948 and November 1950, as part of what is known as "the Great Aliyah," is eligible to receive Bulgarian citizenship, including their descendants for generations. (This concerns about 50,000 people). It is not required for the citizen to be alive for their heirs to receive citizenship. The right to citizenship is transferable only to descendants, not to their spouses, and there is no possibility to skip generations - meaning for a grandchild to receive Bulgarian citizenship, their parent must first exercise the right.
