About Us

Dotan Shaya is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Bar-Ilan University and was admitted as a lawyer in 2005.

During his studies, Dotan Shaya served as a research assistant to Professor (Emeritus) Aharon Enker and also served for two years as a teaching assistant in the course 'Economic Analysis of Legal Problems'. In 2014, he established his private practice - Dotan Shaya, Law Firm.

Attorney Dotan Shaya worked for nearly a decade in some of the largest and leading law firms in Israel in the field of civil-commercial law, starting at Yossi Levy & Co. (now Levy Meidan & Co.), through a period at Lipa Meir & Co., and concluding with work as a lawyer in the litigation department at Shadot & Co. (now Shadot, Meholal, Eitan & Co.) (about two years), and at Granot & Co. (about 6 years).

In his role at Granot & Co., Attorney Shaya was responsible for the entire litigation field in the firm, and among other things, was in charge of all legal representation of the firm's major clients. Over the years, he has represented some of the largest corporations in the market, hotel chains, various Israeli banks, and private clients, including in high-profile class actions and financial claims.

Areas of Practice

The law firm of Dotan Shaya engages in a variety of civil and commercial law fields and has special expertise in civil-commercial litigation, from the pre-litigation stage (examining legal rights and making initial demands to the opposing party) to the conclusion of the process in the first instance or on appeal.

As part of its civil and commercial litigation practice, the firm also (but not exclusively) deals with the following areas:

  • Banking Law - Attorney Shaya has represented various Israeli banks in numerous proceedings, in claims filed against the bank as well as in claims filed by the bank against indebted clients (including insolvency proceedings).
  • Bills and Checks Law - Attorney Shaya has represented in legal proceedings (including enforcement proceedings) regarding bills, including guarantees (autonomous and regular) and promissory notes, as well as checks that were canceled by their drawers and\/or not honored by the drawee bank for various reasons.
  • Enforcement - Attorney Shaya has represented creditors in debt collection proceedings.
  • General Commercial Litigation - Attorney Shaya has represented in a variety of commercial cases, including (in addition to the aforementioned) arbitration and mediation proceedings, injunction proceedings, ownership claims in shares, intellectual property proceedings, claims regarding contractual work agreements, and claims concerning education and the granting of academic degrees.

Attorney Shaya has extensive experience in court appearances and various tribunals, including conducting arbitration and mediation proceedings, civil proceedings (claims, appeals, class actions, injunctions), family court proceedings, and administrative proceedings.

According to Attorney Shaya's philosophy, the client's best interest usually dictates shortening the legal process and resolving the dispute in the shortest possible way (while preserving the client's legal interests). Therefore, and in accordance with the client's instructions, Attorney Shaya makes every effort to resolve the legal dispute before filing the lawsuit or at the preliminary stage of the legal process, to maximize the client's benefit and save unnecessary costs.
